Installation Masters

What is Installation Masters?

Installation Masters ™ is a nationwide training and certification program for installers of windows and patio doors in the residential and light commercial markets.  The program was developed by AAMA after prompting from the Building, Environment and Thermal Envelope Council (BETEC) through the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).  InstallationMasters ™ is designed to teach installers the best practices and installation techniques for both new construction and replacement projects based on established industry standards.  It provides an assurance that certified installers have been trained and passed the written examination.

No matter how much you spend on top of the line windows and doors, they won't achieve peak performance if they are installed incorrectly.

InstallationMasters™ certification lets you know that the contractor has installation experience and has been trained on the proper techniques.

There is a lot to know about properly installing windows and doors. Window manufacturers' installation instructions can't be expected to provide complete details on how to handle the hundreds of different surrounding wall and job site conditions found in the field.

How does a contractor become a certified installer?

To qualify as a certified InstallationMasters ™ installer, candidate~ complete a training course conducted by trained and accredited instructors.   The course is based on the consensus of industry professionals and the nationally recognized installation standard published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).  The training covers:

  • Tested and accepted installation techniques
  • Proper material selection, including the correct use of sealant and flashing
  • Job site safety
  • Protection of the homeowner's property
  • Quality control
  • Product care, adjustment, cleaning, and much more.

The candidates must then apply what they've learned to pass a thorough written examination.  Once the installers pass the exam, they become certified InstallationMasters ™ installers.

Architectural Heritage Center

We are pleased to be members of the Architectural Heritage Center.  The Architectural Heritage Center is a non-profit resource center for historic preservation.  They help people APPRECIATE, RESTORE, and MAINTAIN the vintage homes, neighborhoods, and buildings that make the Portland area such a special place to live.  Owned and operated by the Bosco-Milligan Foundation, they host over 40 programs, tours, workshops, and exhibits each year and maintain one of the largest collections of architectural artifacts in the United States. learn more . . .

The History:
History of the Bosco-Milligan Foundation & the Architectural Heritage Center
For more than a decade, the Bosco-Milligan Foundation’s strong, ongoing commitment to preserving our regional architectural heritage has been based on the belief that vintage buildings and traditional neighborhoods are essential to the vitality and identity of our communities.  Established in Portland, Oregon in1987, the Bosco-Milligan Foundation is one of Oregon’s most active non-profit historic preservation organizations.  The founders knew that when one historic building is lost, a piece of our history is gone forever . . . (more)

Meeting a Vital Community Need:
The Portland area's rich diversity of vintage buildings defines the character of our community, and how it looks and feels both to long-time residents and newcomers alike.  Our local history is irrevocably tied to these buildings, which stand as physical testaments to the hopes, dreams and talents of those who came before us.  This is our architectural heritage - the built environment - which is vital to the fabric of our neighborhoods and community identity.

Growth and development pressures, deterioration, and unsuitable alterations threaten our building heritage throughout the region.  The problem is compounded when people are unaware of knowledgeable craftspeople and lack knowledge of good preservation practices that need to be followed to take care for our historic buildings.  With the appropriate resources and training, people go on to practice quality building preservation and restoration.

The Architectural Heritage Center provides people with these resources throughout the year: teaching architectural traditions, styles, materials and building techniques, offering hands-on training in restoration, and ongoing outreach programs to the general public.  They work to proactively promote a greater understanding and appreciation of preserving our building heritage.
